Tax Law Expert For Individuals
Tax solutions for individuals
We provide tax services and tax help to individual taxpayers who have a tax problem relating to their personal income tax.
Everybody’s tax situation is different. You may be an employee, working and living overseas, setting up a business, involved in the sharing economy, own a rental property or have complex personal financial and property arrangements or dealings.
No matter what your tax problem or tax issue is, we can resolve it for you.
These are some of the common tax issues where we help our individual clients to sort out their personal tax problem.
If you have a tax debt that you can’t pay or are struggling to pay, then depending on your circumstances we can help you by:
- Negotiating with the ATO to get you more time to pay your tax
- Making your tax debt smaller by getting penalties and interest reduced
- Having your tax debt written off if paying it would cause you financial hardship
If you live and work overseas, then depending on your personal circumstances and ties with Australia, you might not be a tax resident of Australia. If you are a non-resident, you only need to pay tax on your Australian source income.
The ATO might review your situation (especially if you have transferred money to an Australian bank account) and try to tax your foreign income on the basis you are a resident.
We have successfully argued for many clients that they are in fact not tax resident in Australia.
If you are audited by the ATO or think you might be a non-resident, contact us for help.
The ATO is auditing rental property owners and their tax deductions for interest and repairs.
If you are audited by the ATO we can help you. We have assisted many landlords who are being audited by the ATO to resolve their tax situation. This can sometimes involve complex legal arguments where the legal title to the property is in a different name, but a trust arrangement is in place.
If you own property, you may have a land tax issue. Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to get you an exemption from land tax or structure your affairs so your land tax bill is reduced.
Capital Gains Tax (CGT) main residence exemption
Selling your home may create a CGT liability if you have used it to produce income or have several properties. CGT is a complex area. We can advise you on the CGT implications of selling your home and how to reduce your CGT if possible.
If you own a property that you subdivide and sell, there are many tax and GST issues to consider depending on your circumstances. We can advise you on the tax and GST consequences and the best way to structure your property subdivision.
If you are audited by the ATO over your tax deductions or for some other reason, we can help you to manage the audit process and resolve your tax issue. We will fight for your claims wherever legally possible under the tax law.
Tax advice or ruling
If you need tax advice or a tax ruling on a tax issue, we can help you by providing tax advice that you can understand.
Tax objection or dispute
Objecting to an ATO tax assessment, ATO decision or taking the ATO to court is a complex process that must be done right, or it can limit your chance of success.
We are experts in tax objections and tax dispute resolution and can help you to resolve your tax dispute.
The ATO will give you close and special attention if you are:
- a wealthy Australian – you control net wealth over $5 million; or
- a high wealth individual – you control net wealth over $50 million.
The ATO has an ongoing focus on this group of wealthy people and may ask for verification of your wealth and its source. This can involve reviews of your group structure and other forms of early engagement to verify your income and wealth.
We have vast experience in assisting wealthy individuals and high wealth individuals with ATO reviews and audits.
If you are a wealthy Australian or a high wealth individual and you are selected for a review, audit or require other tax advice about your situation, we can help you.
